Breathing Timer
ProductivityOct 2026Visual and acoustic autonomic nervous system pacer for rapid calm, deep focus, and restorative sleep.

Why I Built This
Breathing is the only autonomic bodily function you can consciously regulate in real time. Whenever you lengthen your exhalation relative to your inhalation, your vagus nerve releases acetylcholine onto the sinoatrial node of your heart, physically slowing your pulse within 60 to 90 seconds.
Most breathwork tools online are bloated with accounts, subscriptions, or intrusive popups. I built a clean, zero-friction interactive web pacer that gives you immediate visual and acoustic feedback with zero tracking or registration.
Supported Protocols
- Box Breathing (4-4-4-4): The Navy SEAL operational calm protocol. Equalizes blood gases, regulates blood pressure, and restores mental focus.
- 4-7-8 Relaxing Breath (4-7-8-0): Dr. Andrew Weil's natural bedtime tranquilizer for falling asleep fast.
- Coherent Resonant Breathing (5.5-0-5.5-0): Paced at 5.5 breaths per minute to match 0.1 Hz cardiovascular resonance for maximum Heart Rate Variability (HRV).
- Physiological Sigh (3-1-6-0): Stanford's double-inhale, long-exhale reflex to reopen collapsed alveoli and halt panic attacks.
- Calming Breath (4-0-6-2): Gentle parasympathetic deceleration for midday workplace stress.
- Energizing Breath (6-0-2-0): Gentle morning wakefulness without caffeine jitters.
Native iOS & Apple Watch Companion
While the web timer is great for desk sessions, looking at a bright glowing screen during breathwork disrupts relaxation. If you have an iPhone, my native iOS app Breathwork: Calm Breathing uses silent Taptic Engine pulses on your palm or Apple Watch so you can practice completely with your eyes closed in bed or at your desk.
