ElevenReader CLI

ReadingSep 2026

Manage your ElevenReader library, read clean Markdown transcripts, and export bookmarks from your terminal.

Quick start

go install github.com/sameerbajaj/elevenreader/cmd/elevenreader@latest
elevenreader auth import
elevenreader list
elevenreader read <read-id> -o article.md

Why I built this

I use ElevenReader constantly to listen to long-form essays, newsletter posts, and technical papers while away from my desk. The mobile audio experience is great, but managing the library on desktop meant clicking through slow web interfaces. When I wanted to extract an article transcript into my local notes, save highlights, or queue up a URL from a shell script, there was no fast path.

I built a command-line client in Go that speaks directly to the ElevenReader API. It manages library items, strips speech timing tags to give you clean text, and lets you script reading workflows from your terminal.

Library management and transcript export workflows

The CLI gives you full control over your ElevenReader library, transcripts, custom folders, and bookmarks.

Reading clean Markdown transcripts without timing tags

Run elevenreader read <read-id> to view article text right in your terminal. The tool removes internal word-timing span tags and synthetic audio markers, giving you clean, readable Markdown that you can display or pipe directly to a file with -o article.md.

Importing articles from URLs, PDFs, and text

Add new articles to your listening queue from several sources: pass a web article URL via --url, upload local documents (PDF, EPUB, or TXT) via --file, or paste quick text notes via --text.

Importing browser credentials automatically

Run elevenreader auth import to scan local profiles from Brave, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Arc for active session credentials. The tool validates the token against the API and saves it locally, removing the need to dig through browser developer tools.

Exporting highlights and organizing collections

Organize reading material into themed folders using elevenreader collection commands. When you highlight passages in the mobile app, you can export all bookmarks for any read as Markdown notes.

Scripting library exports with JSON output

All commands support a --json flag, making it simple to build interactive workflows with fzf or batch export your entire reading library to local folders.

How to install and authenticate

  1. Install with Go (1.22+):
    go install github.com/sameerbajaj/elevenreader/cmd/elevenreader@latest
  2. Import credentials from your active browser session:
    elevenreader auth import
You can also log in interactively with elevenreader auth login or set export ELEVENREADER_TOKEN="..." in your shell profile.
  3. Verify your setup:
    elevenreader auth status

Local security and privacy

Your session token is stored locally in ~/.config/elevenreader/config.json. All network requests go straight to ElevenReader API endpoints over HTTPS. There are no analytics, tracking scripts, or telemetry collected.
